At Central Baptist Church we are going through a sermon series on Sunday mornings called “Preparing for Battle.” We are seeing what the Bible says about spiritual warfare by walking through Ephesians 6:10-20 over the next few weeks. In this past Sunday’s message, we looked at what the Bible says about who our real enemy is, what he is like, how he works, and how we can respond to his attacks.
One particular way Satan seeks to attack is in the context of marriages. Earlier this week, I caught this article from Dr. Chuck Lawless on how, in particular, Satan tries to attack our marriages. I hope you will find it helpful. There is no question that, regarding marriages, Satan is living up to his biblical description as the one who is seeking to “steal, kill, and destroy” (John 10:10).
Will you, if you are married, stop right now and pray for God’s protection for your marriage? Pray that, by the power of His Holy Spirit, He will help you to “stand strong in the Lord and in His mighty power” (Eph. 6:10) when Satan comes and tries to attack your marriage. Will you also pray for the marriages of others? Also, work proactively to strengthen your marriage by seeking out what God’s Word says about His design for marriage relationships and asking Him, by the power of His Spirit, to help you walk in obedience to what you find there.
God intends our marriages to be a visible picture of the Gospel and of His love for, and relationship with, us as His people. May we guard our marriages and, in so doing, protect our witness of the Gospel through our marriages – all for our good and His glory!
